Chief Minister announces Re. 1 a kg rice scheme

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy announces Re. 1 a kg rice scheme for 2.25 crore poor families as a Dasara gift.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy announced the State Government's 'Dasara gift' at a Rythu Mahila Sadassu held at the SV University stadium in Tirupati. Kiran Kumar announced that Re. 1 a kg rice scheme that would benefit 2.25 crore families in the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State Government would have to bear Rs. 2600 crore per year for the scheme as against Rs. 2000 crore for Re. 2 a kg rice scheme. The Chief Minister added that 3.3 lakh tonnes of rice would be required to implement this scheme. New Ration cards would also be given to 25 lakh families during Rachabanda in October this year.

Referring to the earlier promised one lakh jobs in a single day programme, Kiran Kumar said that he has invited Prime Manmohan Singh for the programme who had accepted his invitation. Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari, district in-charge minister N Raghuveera Reddy, Minister G Aruna Kumari, Tirupati MP Chintha Mohan and Tirupati MLA K Chiranjeevi participated in the programme.
