Lok Satta celebrates its first anniversary

The National Convener Jayaprakash Narayan said on Tuesday that Lok Satta will give top priority to induct a fresh crop of youngsters into politics to usher in a new political culture in the country. Speaking to media on the first anniversary of Lok Satta Party, he said that apart from giving prominence to youngsters and women in the party affairs, it would encourage youth to actively take part in all vital sectors like health, education and agriculture.

Commenting on the various schemes unveiled by various political parties with a view to face mid term polls, he said that they were acting in haste for electoral gains that would ultimately result serious implications in the long run. He added that the State Government should take over distribution of IMFL to check bootlegging.

The party executive committee deliberated on the four main issues on the agenda viz., setting up of district governments, basic changes in agriculture, free education and health care for children up to Intermediate and provision of ten percent weight age in education and employment to students of Telugu medium and economically backward sections. The meeting resolved to campaign vigorously for decentralization of powers as part of the district government concept with the slogan 'Intimundu Prabhutvam-Kanti Mundu Palana'. Towards this direction, the party would press for devolution of powers to local bodies.

Before the commencement of the meet, Dr Jayaprakash Narayan garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near RTC Bus stand and paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation. The party stressed the need for bringing in basic changes in agriculture to free small and marginal farmers from the clutches of village money lenders. The party also wanted a critical review of farm subsidies.
