District Collector cautions public about land deals

October 5, 2004
Tirupati

Thinking of buying land in Tirupati? Think twice before you strike the deal. The Tirupati Revenue Division has been reporting of increased incidents of land-grabbing and land disputes cropping up. The District Administration has asked the public in general to get the Land Registration Certificate authenticated before they close their buy deal.

The District Collector SS Rawat has constituted a task force itself to check into the cases related to land deals. The Hathiramji Math land scam and the Oteru land dispute them selves are in the tune of crores of rupees. Some Revenue Officials as well as representatives from the Math were arrested few days ago.

The Special Task Force that was set up in the last week had the Joint Collector as its Chairman and is expected to prepare a list of survey numbers of the lands belonging to government, TTD, Hathiramji Math and private parties. The task force is expected to meet every Thursday and review its progress. Once completed, this list will be given to sub-registrars with instructions not to register the lands with the given survey numbers.
